The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is in mourning following the untimely death of one of its students, Ransford Amankwah Asomani, a Level 200 student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management.
In a statement released on Monday, February 9, the University disclosed that Mr Asomani fell from the second floor of an off-campus hostel at Ayeduase in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026.
He was immediately rushed to the KNUST Hospital with support from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team, but was pronounced dead on arrival despite efforts to save his life.
University authorities confirmed that the deceased student’s parents have been duly informed. His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
KNUST management expressed profound grief over the incident and conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved family and the entire university community, describing the death as a painful and significant loss.
Meanwhile, the KNUST Police, in collaboration with campus security services, have commenced a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The University assured the public that updates would be shared once investigations are concluded.
KNUST further reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of students and staff, stressing the need to maintain a secure and supportive academic environment.
