Sunda Ghana Limited, the makers of Softcare sanitary pads, has contributed 10,000 packs of sanitary pads to the Ministry of Education in support of the government’s Free Sanitary Pad Initiative, following a visit by the Education Minister to the company’s production facility.
The company said the donation aims to promote girl-child education, emphasizing the important role girls play in national development.
Group Chief Executive, Michael Kofi Baako, highlighted that investing in girls’ education is vital for the country’s growth, praising the government’s initiative as commendable and deserving of corporate backing. As one of the world’s largest sanitary pad manufacturers, producing around 80 million packs annually, Sunda Ghana is well-positioned to supply products for the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative.
“Education is a game changer, and the government’s initiative is commendable because it shapes the future of our children, especially girls,” Mr. Baako said. He also noted that the company fully adheres to Ghana Standards Authority regulations to ensure product quality. Sunda Ghana employs approximately 1,000 Ghanaians, with women representing over half of its workforce.
Mr. Baako expressed gratitude to the Education Minister and the government for prioritizing the welfare of students through this program.
Following the donation, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu instructed that the sanitary pads be distributed to Christian Methodist Senior High School, the nearest secondary school to the factory, to directly benefit female students.
