The Board of Directors of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has announced that its members will be waiving all sitting allowances for the rest of the 2025/2026 crop season to support the ongoing reforms in the cocoa sector.
Announcing the decision in a public notice on Thursday, the Board emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to restore stability and confidence within the cocoa value chain.
“The move reflects a commitment to prudent financial management, shared sacrifice and responsible leadership as COCOBOD undertakes critical reforms to address recent challenges in the sector,” part of the notice stated.
It further highlighted the Board’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and promoting accountability while protecting the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.
The notice also assured that COCOBOD will continue to collaborate with the government and other stakeholders to secure a sustainable future for the domestic cocoa industry.
The Board’s decision is the latest of internal actions taken within COCOBOD to support the sector’s reforms.
Earlier this week, COCOBOD announced that its Executive Management has taken a 20% pay cut, while Senior Staff have accepted a 10% salary reduction for the rest of the 2025/2026 cocoa season as part of a broader cost-cutting drive to reduce expenditure and align operational costs with revenue.
“The Executive Management and the Senior Staff of COCOBOD have, effective today, Monday, February 16, 2026, reduced their salaries for the remainder of the 2025/26 crop year in recognition of the current liquidity challenges in the cocoa industry,” it said on Monday.
