Firefighters from the Buipe Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly on Sunday, February 22, to a serious vehicle fire, averting what officials believe could have led to more severe damage and potential casualties.
In a statement, the Service said the team received a distress call at around 5:35 am about a flat-bed trailer (GR 6757-11) carrying 1,000 bags of cement and a low-bed truck (GE 366-16) transporting a Hyundai van (GN 9512-15). The six-member crew, headed by ASTNO Seidu Abdul Basit, arrived at the scene by 5:43 am and found the vehicles fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly applied water and foam concentrate to suppress the blaze. The fire was contained by 6:13 am and completely extinguished at approximately 6:55 am.
Initial findings suggest the fire resulted from a collision involving a stationary, broken-down trailer and a low-bed truck attempting to overtake. The crash is believed to have sparked the inferno, destroying all three vehicles.
The incident caused significant damage, including the partial burning of the cement cargo, the front sections of the vehicles and their side wheels. The Ghana National Fire Service says investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and full details of the incident.
