A group of concerned branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ahanta West has formally petitioned President John Mahama to revoke the appointment of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), citing misconduct, corruption, and incompetence.
In a letter dated February 12, 2026, the executives invoked Article 243(3) of the 1992 Constitution, which empowers the President to remove an MCE for stated misconduct or incompetence. The petition accuses the MCE of abusing authority, disrespecting the General Assembly, and obstructing its work. According to the group, the MCE allegedly locked the Assembly Hall to block a meeting convened by the Presiding Member.
The petitioners further allege collusion in illegal mining activities, claiming confiscated excavators were released without accountability. They accuse the MCE of using security operatives to extort money from miners, and say they have submitted evidence including videos and mobile money transaction records.
Concerns were also raised about conflicts of interest in contract awards, such as the Busua–Dixcove Bridge project and a School Feeding Programme contract. The executives allege interference in local chieftaincy matters, which they say contributed to unrest in parts of the municipality.
The petition highlights financial mismanagement, pointing to the failure to deploy district road machinery for feeder road maintenance. Instead, the MCE allegedly authorised the hiring of external equipment at additional cost to the Assembly.
The executives argue that the MCE’s continued stay in office undermines local governance, threatens party unity, and stalls development in Ahanta West. They are urging President Mahama to take decisive action to restore confidence in the Assembly’s leadership.
