Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reassured the public that Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, are safe and in good condition during their stay in the United Arab Emirates.
In a Facebook update on Sunday, March 1, the Minister revealed that he had directly engaged with the team’s leadership and received confirmation that all members are doing well. He noted that Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the UAE is actively extending consular assistance to the delegation.
He emphasised that, amid the current instability, the government’s top priority remains the safety and well-being of Ghanaians abroad, particularly those in the Middle East.
His remarks follow escalating tensions across the region, with countries such as Qatar and Kuwait reportedly shutting their airspace after a series of military offensives and counterattacks.
Earlier reports indicated that the Black Queens had been left stranded as a result of the unrest. The team touched down in Dubai on February 25 to compete in the Pink Ladies Cup, a four-nation invitational tournament on the international women’s football calendar.
The 41-member Ghanaian contingent, made up of 25 players and 16 officials, is currently staying at Four Points by Sheraton Sharjah, close to Dubai. As a precaution, team management has directed players to pack their belongings while they await further instructions.
