Deputy Education Minister Clement Apaak has revealed that teachers who accept postings to rural and underserved areas will receive a 20 per cent salary increase as an incentive.
He made this announcement during a courtesy visit by top performers in the Basic Education Certificate Examination, highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing disparities within the education sector.
Dr Apaak explained that under the government’s Teacher Dabre Programme, educators assigned to remote and disadvantaged communities will benefit not only from the salary top-up but also from accommodation support. The initiative aims to make rural postings more appealing and enhance the quality of teaching and learning at the basic education level.
He noted that the policy, introduced by President John Mahama during the State of the Nation Address, seeks to ensure that students in deprived communities have equal opportunities to succeed, just like those in urban areas.
