President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Antigua to participate in the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), his first attendance at the high-level gathering since his re-election in December 2024.
The summit brings together leaders of Commonwealth member states to discuss issues affecting the organisation and explore ways to strengthen cooperation among its members.
Convened by King Charles III, the 2026 meeting will focus on deepening partnerships, attracting investment and advancing shared prosperity across Commonwealth countries.

President Mahama’s participation is expected to provide Ghana with an opportunity to engage other member states on matters of common interest, particularly economic cooperation, investment mobilisation and sustainable development.
The gathering will also bring together heads of government and other senior officials to discuss strategies for tackling shared challenges and identifying areas where stronger collaboration can benefit member countries.

A key priority of the summit is to strengthen partnerships and attract investments that can drive economic growth, improve living conditions and create opportunities across the Commonwealth.
For Ghana, the meeting offers an important diplomatic platform to consolidate existing relationships, explore new partnerships and promote the country’s interests within the organisation.
Mr Mahama’s attendance also comes at a time when Ghana is seeking to expand its international partnerships and attract investments to support its development agenda.

The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 independent countries that provides a platform for cooperation in areas such as trade, governance, education, climate change and economic development.
