The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that the sector minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, financed business class travel for some individuals to Germany to watch the Black Stars’ international friendly.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 29, the Ministry described the claims as “false and baseless,” and urged the public to ignore what it termed misleading information.
It clarified that the individuals captured in a viral video are not known to the Minister, explaining that the brief interaction occurred at an airport departure tunnel as he was preparing to board his flight. The Ministry noted that the exchange was informal, as is typical when public officials encounter citizens in such settings.
The Ministry further stated that the Minister travelled alone on official duty to meet the Black Stars team and their technical staff ahead of the friendly matches, with no accompanying staff or delegation.
It also denied claims that any individuals were sponsored, facilitated, or upgraded for the trip, stressing that no public funds or corporate sponsorship were used in connection with the matches.
“For clarity, the Ministry has not allocated any funds, either from its budget or through sponsorship, for the two international friendlies,” the statement added.
Additionally, the Ministry indicated that no arrangements have been made to support fan travel or participation in the matches. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of public resources.
