The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed Ghanaian travellers to Senegal that while vaccinations for yellow fever, DPT, measles, and hepatitis A and B are recommended, they are no longer compulsory for entry.
In a statement released on Tuesday, April 7, the Ministry said it had received updates from Senegal’s Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad in Dakar. The update confirmed that although vaccinations are advised for health and safety, travellers are not required to show vaccination certificates upon arrival.
“Ghanaian travellers to Senegal should be aware of these guidelines and ensure they are medically prepared before travelling,” the statement emphasized. “The information is intended to protect the health and safety of Ghanaian travellers.”
The Ministry did not specify whether the listed diseases are currently common in Senegal, nor whether this change is temporary or permanent. Yellow fever vaccination, traditionally mandatory for many West African countries, is now no longer a strict entry requirement—a notable shift from previous regulations.
Even with the relaxed rules, the Ministry strongly encourages travellers to get the recommended vaccinations before their trip.
Ghanaians planning to visit Senegal are advised to consult healthcare professionals in advance, despite proof of vaccination no longer being legally required. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Ghanaians abroad and urged adherence to all health and entry protocols at destinations.
