The National Service Authority (NSA), in partnership with Absa Bank Ghana and the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), has introduced an overdraft facility to support National Service Personnel (NSPs) affected by delays in monthly allowance payments.
The initiative, announced this week, is being implemented through Absa Bank Ghana, which will provide the financial platform for eligible personnel to access short-term credit. The facility is designed to bridge temporary financial gaps, with repayment expected once government allowances are paid.
It will allow active service personnel across the country to access overdraft support via their bank accounts, helping them manage essential expenses such as transport, feeding, and accommodation during periods of delayed disbursement.
According to the NSA, the programme forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of service personnel during their one-year mandatory national service period. The Authority says the collaboration with Absa and NASPA is aimed at reducing financial strain while maintaining continuity in service delivery.
NASPA has welcomed the move, describing it as a timely intervention that responds directly to long-standing concerns raised by personnel over delayed allowances.
Absa Bank Ghana is expected to manage the operational rollout, including onboarding processes and access requirements for eligible service personnel. Further details on interest rates, limits, and application procedures are expected to be communicated to personnel in the coming days.
The arrangement comes as part of broader efforts to address recurring challenges associated with the timing of national service allowance payments, which have in the past created financial difficulties for many personnel across the country.
