A Ghanaian legal professional has made his mark in one of England’s most prestigious legal institutions, with Silas Boateng elected as President of the Middle Temple Young Barristers’ Association (MTYBA).
The election took place on April 7, 2026, with results officially announced on April 20, 2026. In his new role, Boateng serves as the representative of all young barristers called to the Bar of England and Wales at Middle Temple, one of the four historic Inns of Court in England and Wales, which holds the exclusive authority to call students to the Bar.
Boateng’s rise to the presidency follows a steady climb through the association’s ranks. He previously served as Vice President of the MTYBA from 2025 to 2026, and before that held the position of Debate Officer at the Middle Temple Students’ Association between 2022 and 2023.
His legal journey began in Ghana, where he obtained his LLB from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2020. He subsequently pursued the Bar Course in the United Kingdom at the University of Law and was called to the Bar of England and Wales at Middle Temple, joining the Honourable Society in 2021.
His leadership record stretches back to his student days at GIMPA, where he served as President of the GIMPA NCCE Constitutional Club, Justice on the Judicial Council of the GIMPA Student Representative Council, and later Chair of the SRC’s Disciplinary Committee.
The MTYBA exists to support young barristers through the early and often challenging stages of their legal careers. The association focuses on three key areas: assisting those yet to secure pupillage, supporting members currently undergoing pupillage, and guiding barristers through their first seven years of practice. It also regularly organizes events, highlights professional opportunities, and hosts competitions for its members.
Boateng’s election is being seen as a reflection of both his personal commitment to leadership and service, and a broader recognition of the growing presence of African legal professionals in elite international institutions.
