Ghana Athletics has unveiled its men’s relay squad for the upcoming World Athletics Relays, with a mix of established names and emerging talent selected for the global event in Gaborone.
Leading the team are Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, both of whom have been central to Ghana’s recent rise in sprint competitions. They will be joined by Joseph Paul Amoah, alongside Isaac Botsio and Ibrahim Fuseini.
The World Relays, one of athletics’ premier team events, is expected to draw hundreds of athletes from across multiple continents, offering countries a chance to test combinations ahead of major international championships.
For Ghana, the focus extends beyond participation. The team enters the competition on the back of a standout performance at the last World Championships, where the men’s 4x100m relay squad broke the national record and came close to a podium finish. That result has heightened expectations around the team’s potential heading into this year’s meet.
The selection reflects a balance between continuity and competition for places, with coaches expected to fine-tune baton exchanges and running order in the lead-up to the event, often decisive factors in relay success.
The Botswana meet is also expected to play a key role in shaping qualification prospects for future global championships, making it a critical test for Ghana’s sprint programme.
As preparations continue, attention will be on whether the team can convert its growing promise into a podium finish on the international stage.
