The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has instructed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to take immediate action to fix inadequate street lighting across the region.
She noted that although streetlights have been procured and distributed to various assemblies, many communities are still experiencing poor lighting conditions.
Speaking at the first 2026 meeting of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister said her office continues to receive numerous complaints, both from media reports and social media, about dark and unsafe areas.
She cautioned that assemblies that fail to address the issue may soon be publicly identified if the problem continues.
The Minister stressed that proper street lighting is vital for ensuring public safety and is also key to supporting the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
She therefore called on assemblies to carry out comprehensive assessments of street lighting in their areas, working closely with the Ministry of Energy and relevant road agencies.
