Prempeh College has intensified efforts to retrieve GH¢1,053,230 owed by the Government of Ghana as compensation for land used in constructing the Sofoline Interchange.
The matter came up during a sitting of the Public Accounts Committee in Kumasi on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, where school officials appeared to address issues flagged in the Auditor-General’s report.
Headmaster Louis Asare told the committee that although the compensation was promised in 2013, the school has yet to receive the funds despite multiple follow-ups.
He noted that at least four formal letters have been sent to key institutions, including Value Properties and the Department of Urban Roads, but only verbal assurances have been given, with no actual payment made.
“Repeated efforts to retrieve the funds have yielded no results,” he stated.
In response, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, William Kwame Amankrah, assured the committee that the issue would be referred to Frank Amoakohene to help facilitate payment for the school’s development needs.
Meanwhile, Frank Yeboah, a member of the committee and an alumnus of the school, called on authorities to treat the matter with urgency.
“Education Director, do something about it to make sure that Prempeh College gets its fair share,” he urged.
