The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has declared a nationwide protest involving both teacher trainees and trained teachers impacted by the 2022–2024 recruitment backlog, pointing to limited job opportunities.
The demonstration is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026, and will be held across all Colleges of Education, with participants gathering centrally in Accra.
In a statement issued on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the Association’s National Secretariat explained that the protest is driven by the rising number of trained teachers awaiting employment and what it described as insufficient recruitment slots provided by authorities.
TTAG noted that the decision came after broad consultations and underscores the pressing need for a more inclusive and responsive teacher recruitment system.
The Association also assured that it has worked with relevant authorities to put in place adequate security measures to guarantee a peaceful and well-organised demonstration nationwide.
It further indicated that all 49 Colleges of Education are expected to take part, urging members to act with discipline, unity, and a sense of urgency.
“This decision follows extensive consultations and a careful assessment of the concerns raised by our members, alongside the pressing need for a more inclusive and responsive teacher recruitment process. Consequently, Friday, April 24, 2026, has been set aside for a nationwide protest across all Colleges of Education, with a central convergence in Accra.
“All necessary security arrangements have been made in collaboration with the appropriate authorities to ensure a peaceful and orderly exercise across all Colleges. Therefore, all forty-nine (49) Colleges of Education are expected to participate with urgency, discipline, and unity, as previously communicated,” the statement said.
