An MP sitting on Parliament’s Energy Committee has added his voice to mounting public frustration over Ghana’s current power supply situation, describing the ongoing outages as intolerable and warning of serious consequences for students, businesses, and the broader economy.
Michael Kwasi Aidoo, Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, made the remarks on Joy News’ The Pulse on Tuesday, April 28, pulling no punches in his assessment of what Ghanaians are currently enduring.
“The dumsor now is very unbearable. It’s very, very unbearable. Lives are at stake, businesses are at stake, students are writing BECE next week,” he said.
The timing, he stressed, could hardly be worse. JHS 3 students across the country are days away from sitting the Basic Education Certificate Examination, with papers scheduled to begin Monday, and the MP warned that persistent power cuts are undermining the conditions students need to prepare effectively.
“On Monday, JHS 3 students are writing BECE, and they cannot sit in dumsor to write,” he said.
Beyond the immediate academic pressure, Mr Aidoo flagged the wider damage being inflicted on businesses and household productivity, arguing that the disruptions are hitting at a moment when reliable electricity is particularly critical across multiple sectors.
His remarks come as public pressure intensifies on authorities to move beyond short-term fixes and deliver a stable, dependable national grid.
