The Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) has thrown its support behind the government’s move to clamp down on the unchecked spread of billboards across Accra, describing the action as overdue.
Speaking to the media during an inspection tour by the Technical Committee on the Regularisation and Sanitisation of Billboards and Signages, led by Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, Executive Director Isaac Cudjoe said the city’s skyline has become cluttered and needs stricter enforcement to restore order.
The team toured sections of Ayawaso West, Ayawaso East, and La Dade-Kotopon municipalities to evaluate the scale of unregulated billboards.
Cudjoe noted that while most association members adhere to regulations, a significant number of outdoor advertising operators remain unregistered and operate outside industry oversight.
He stated that the Association supports the removal of illegally erected billboards as part of efforts to clean up the environment and properly regulate the sector.
Isaac Cudjoe also expressed optimism that with consistent political commitment and cooperation between government and industry stakeholders, Accra’s skyline could see major improvements by next year.
“This action is long overdue. We’ve been waiting for a government willing to take decisive steps to clean up the environment. Right now, it’s a mess,” he said.
