Workers of the National Identification Authority, represented by the Public Services Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress, have announced that they will go ahead with their planned indefinite strike starting Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
The workers are calling for the immediate approval and implementation of migration reports concerning their conditions of service.
The decision was outlined in a joint statement signed by Assistant Divisional Secretary Godsway Ayivor and Divisional Chairman Bismark Francis Bangfudem Nyuzaghl.
According to the statement, union members nationwide have been instructed not to report to work from midnight on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, until further notice.
“Effective 12:00 midnight, the indefinite strike is fully activated. Accordingly, no member of the NIA Division is expected to report to work until further notice,” the statement noted.
The union further directed regional executives to establish monitoring teams to ensure strict adherence to the industrial action across all NIA offices nationwide.
“All regional executives and members are also directed to form monitoring teams, visit the various offices, and ensure total compliance with the strike action without exception,” the statement added.
Members who encounter challenges during the strike have also been urged to promptly contact divisional executives for assistance and resolution.
“In solidarity, we stand. No retreat, no surrender until victory,” the statement stressed.
The industrial action is expected to affect operations at NIA offices across Ghana, including Ghana Card registration, issuance and other identification-related services.
Meanwhile, the management of the NIA has appealed to staff to grant the government an additional two weeks to complete processes relating to the approval and implementation of the migration reports tied to workers’ conditions of service.
