Ohene Kwame Frimpong is the Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyem North, a seat he won in the 2024 general elections as an independent candidate in one of the constituency’s biggest political upsets in recent years.
His victory was widely seen as significant after he defeated incumbent Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, ending the New Patriotic Party’s hold on the seat. After entering Parliament in January 2025, he aligned himself with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority Caucus, despite contesting as an independent.
Born on September 23, 1986, Mr Frimpong hails from Agogo in the Ashanti Region. Before entering politics, he built his public profile as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and media executive.
He is best known as the founder of Salt Media GH, a media group that operates Salt FM and Salt TV in Agogo, giving him strong visibility in the Asante Akyem area.
Beyond media, he has business interests in food and beverage, real estate and retail. He gained additional national attention through his fast-growing food brand, Kub’s Original Bofrot Puff Puff, which helped build his profile as a young entrepreneur.
Mr Frimpong has also promoted himself heavily as a philanthropist through the Smart Frimpong Foundation, which has supported education, health and community development projects in parts of the Ashanti Region. Among the projects linked to him are classroom support initiatives, a clinic project in Agogo and contributions to the reconstruction of the Agogo Central Mosque.
His public image has largely been built around grassroots engagement, youth empowerment and local development, factors that helped power his rise from businessman to MP.
In 2021, he received the African Youth Badge Honoré Award for entrepreneurship and philanthropy, adding to a growing list of business and leadership recognitions.
His recent detention in the Netherlands now places that public profile under intense scrutiny, as authorities investigate allegations linked to an international financial crime case. While Parliament has confirmed his detention, no formal charges have yet been publicly announced.
