Swiss Armed Forces engage GAF on peacekeeping cooperation at Burma Camp
A three-member delegation from the Swiss Armed Forces (Swiss Armed Forces) has held high-level talks with the Directorate of Internal Peace Support Operations (IPSO) at Burma Camp in Accra as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation in peacekeeping and military training.
According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces, the visit on Friday, May 22, 2026, centred on Ghana’s long-standing experience in peace support operations and explored areas of collaboration between the two militaries.
During the engagement, officials from the Ghana Armed Forces provided an overview of the country’s extensive involvement in international peacekeeping missions, including United Nations operations and regional deployments under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The briefing also highlighted current operational priorities and emerging trends in global peace support activities.
The Director General of IPSO, Brigadier General Fuseini Salifu, led the presentation and outlined Ghana’s peacekeeping structure and contributions, emphasising the discipline, professionalism, and readiness of Ghanaian troops deployed in various mission areas.
Brig Gen Salifu also praised the Swiss Armed Forces for their continued support to the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, noting that the partnership has helped strengthen Ghana’s peacekeeping capabilities over the years.
He expressed confidence that the engagement would lead to deeper cooperation between both countries, particularly in specialised training and capacity-building programmes.
On behalf of the Swiss delegation, Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Luedin, Swiss Course Commander, thanked the Ghanaian military leadership for the detailed briefing.
He reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to supporting the Ghana Armed Forces and indicated plans to expand training opportunities for Ghanaian personnel in technical and specialised fields.
Lt Col Luedin also stressed the importance of sustained collaboration and knowledge sharing in enhancing international peace support operations.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from both sides, including representatives from Switzerland such as Mr Alan McGarrity, Acting Head of Regional Military Cooperation, and Colonel Michael Freudweiler, Deputy Commander of the Swiss International Command.
Ghana Armed Forces officials present included Colonel Owusu-Brobbey, Deputy Director of IPSO, and Colonel James Sabia, Director of International Peace Support and Plans.
