The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year, detailing schedules for both single-track and transitional schools.
In a statement released on June 1, the GES encouraged parents, students, teachers, and school authorities to familiarise themselves with the timetable and make the necessary preparations for the new academic year.
According to the statement, the academic calendar for SHSs and SHTSs has now been finalised.
For schools operating under the single-track system, Form One and Form Two students are expected to resume on September 18, 2026, and remain in school until January 29, 2027. They will then go on vacation until March 29, 2027, with the second semester scheduled from March 30 to July 30, 2027.
Form Three students in single-track schools will also report on September 18, 2026, and complete their first semester on December 18, 2026. After the vacation period, they will return on February 1, 2027, and finish the academic year on June 18, 2027.
For transitional schools, Form One students will combine physical classes with online learning. They will begin in-person lessons on September 18, 2026, before switching to online studies from November 16 to December 18, 2026. Following the break, they will return to campus from February 8 to April 16, 2027, and continue online learning from April 19 to May 14, 2027.
The second semester for Form One students in transitional schools will run from June 21 to August 27, 2027.
Form Two students in transitional schools will begin classes on November 16, 2026, and continue until February 5, 2027, before moving to online studies from February 8 to March 5, 2027. Their second semester is expected to begin on April 19 and end on August 27, 2027.
Meanwhile, Form Three students in transitional schools will attend classes from September 18 to December 18, 2026, resume on January 5, 2027, and conclude the academic year on June 18, 2027.
The GES further noted that the Christmas vacation will take place from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while the Easter break has been slated for March 25 to March 30, 2027.
Additionally, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is scheduled to run from April 6 to June 18, 2027. A mid-semester break for Form Two students has also been fixed for June 17 to June 20, 2027.
