A 35-year-old woman has lost her life after a two-storey residential building collapsed at Adenta New Site in Accra during Wednesday evening’s heavy rains.
The deceased, identified as Margaret Kpeli, was trapped under the rubble together with her three children when the structure gave way near Da Yesu Ase Supermarket.
Her sister, Georgina Robinson, confirmed the incident during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Thursday.
According to her, the three children were rescued alive and taken to the 37 Military Hospital with injuries.
Margaret was later pulled from the debris unconscious and handed over to the Adenta District Police. She was subsequently confirmed dead.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service’s National Headquarters, Legon and Abelemkpe stations were dispatched to the scene to support rescue efforts.
A dog trapped beneath the collapsed building was also rescued alive.
The Ghana National Fire Service earlier praised residents who assisted in the initial rescue operation and acknowledged the support of the Ghana Police Service, medical personnel and other emergency responders involved in the incident.
