Traffic was briefly disrupted along the Accra–Madina highway on Friday after a truck transporting crates of beer overturned near the Shangri-La bus stop.
The accident occurred during the morning rush when a chain of sudden events on the road reportedly forced the driver into an emergency manoeuvre.
According to eyewitnesses, a commercial vehicle conductor halted traffic to allow a pedestrian to cross the highway. The unexpected action caused a vehicle ahead to brake abruptly, creating a dangerous situation for vehicles approaching from behind.
In an effort to avoid crashing into the vehicle in front, the driver of a Kia Rhino truck carrying a large consignment of Club Beer attempted to steer away from the obstruction. However, the truck reportedly became unstable and toppled onto its side.
The impact scattered part of the cargo across the roadway, leaving broken bottles and damaged crates strewn along the stretch.
Residents, commuters and nearby traders quickly gathered at the scene, helping to salvage some of the undamaged crates while authorities worked to restore normal movement on the road.
The overturned vehicle occupied part of the carriageway, resulting in slow-moving traffic around the Shangri-La area as motorists navigated around the obstruction.
Despite the extent of the damage to the cargo, no casualties or injuries were reported.
Efforts were later made to clear the wreckage and spilled goods from the road to ease congestion and ensure the safety of motorists using the route.
