Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has pledged 100 job opportunities for Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks and anti-immigrant protests.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, while receiving another group of evacuees at the Accra International Airport on Saturday night, June 6, 2026.
According to the minister, the employment opportunities are part of broader efforts to help reintegrate Ghanaians who voluntarily returned home after losing jobs, businesses and other properties during the unrest in South Africa.
“I am so impressed that already, about 200 jobs have been secured for you and leading the path is Mr. Ibrahim Mahama’s Engineers and Planners. They have offered 100 jobs,” Ablakwa told the returnees.
He further disclosed that telecommunications firms AirtelTigo and Telecel had also offered support, while several other corporate organisations had expressed willingness to assist the returnees.
“I want to also thank AirtelTigo and Telecel, they have also reached out. There are many other CEOs calling that they are going to be part of this programme. They are not going to sit back and just watch you having lost everything, businesses and assets. They are going to partner with government to make sure you are fully integrated,” he said.
The latest group of evacuees arrived in Accra under an ongoing government evacuation programme involving more than 1,500 Ghanaians who chose to return home following renewed xenophobic violence and anti-immigrant protests in parts of South Africa.
Government officials say the reintegration initiative will provide employment opportunities and other forms of assistance to help the returnees rebuild their lives.
The first flight of the second batch brought about 345 evacuees back to Ghana, while another flight carrying more than 300 additional passengers is expected to arrive as the evacuation exercise continues.
