A 17-year-old final-year student of Mfantsipim Senior High School in Cape Coast has been confirmed dead in an apparent suicide, according to the Central Regional Police Command.
The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Arthur, was discovered in an unfinished building at Ola North, a suburb of Cape Coast, after a carpenter working at the site reported the incident to authorities.
Police said officers arrived at the scene on June 11, 2026, where they found the student’s body.
A search of the area led to the recovery of a black backpack containing examination materials, including a Geography mock Paper 1 bearing his name. Investigators also found two mobile phones—an Android device and a basic “yam” phone—along with other personal items.
School authorities at Mfantsipim SHS later confirmed that the deceased was indeed a final-year student.
His family was informed, and the body was handed over to them after medical officials at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital confirmed significant decomposition.
The structure where the body was found was subsequently disinfected, after which the family proceeded with burial arrangements.
Police say initial findings point to suicide, though the exact circumstances leading to the incident are still under investigation.
