Bedfordshire Police have opened a murder investigation following the discovery of a mother and her two children dead inside a property on Carnoustie Drive, Great Denham.
Officers forced entry into the home on Monday after neighbours reported the family had not been seen for several days. Assistant Chief Constable John Murphy described the case as “deeply distressing,” adding that investigators believe the victims were murdered.
Police confirmed they have identified a suspect known to the victims, but believe the individual has left the country. Formal identification of the deceased and the suspect has not yet been completed.
Authorities stressed there is no wider risk to the public, though patrols and uniformed presence in the area will be increased. Residents have been urged to report any suspicious activity from Friday or Saturday to Bedfordshire Police.
“This is the early stages of what is an incredibly complex investigation. We are committing all necessary resources to establish exactly what has happened and to find the person responsible,” Murphy said.
