A deadly confrontation between police officers and residents of Sefwi Sayerano in the Western North Region has claimed a third life, deepening tensions in the community following Monday’s incident.
The latest fatality was among individuals who sustained gunshot wounds during the clash, according to reports from the area. The victim was pronounced dead on Wednesday, raising the death toll from two to three.
The violence reportedly erupted when a team from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command entered the community to apprehend a man suspected of engaging in drug-related activities. The operation allegedly met resistance from some residents, leading to a confrontation that turned deadly.
Several people were shot during the incident, with two victims initially confirmed dead and others rushed to hospital for treatment.
An update from the community indicates that one of the injured victims later succumbed to injuries, while another person remains under medical care.
The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at a mortuary as investigations continue into the circumstances that led to the shooting.
