The Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na Abukari II, has passed away, throwing the kingdom into a period of mourning.
His death was officially announced on Monday, July 13, by the Head of the Dagbon Kingmakers, Kuga Naa Adam Abdulai II, after the required customary rites were performed at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
In keeping with Dagbon tradition, the announcement followed the beating of the traditional talking drum and the observance of customary rituals, which formally signified the passing of the Ya-Na.
The late king has since been laid to rest in accordance with Dagbon customs.
The passing of Ya-Na Abukari II marks a significant moment in the history of the Dagbon Kingdom, with traditional leaders expected to communicate the next steps in the succession process after the completion of the funeral rites.
