Vietnam’s National Wage Council has announced that it will recommend an average 7.8% increase in the country’s minimum wage across its four regions from 2027, according to a government statement issued on Thursday.
If approved, the revised monthly minimum wage would range between 4.04 million dong and 5.70 million dong (approximately US$153.86 to US$217.08), depending on the region.
The minimum wage serves as the benchmark for salary negotiations between employers and employees and applies to workers employed under formal labour contracts.
Vietnam, a major manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia known for its competitive labour costs, last adjusted its minimum wage in January 2026.
Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Ngo Duy Hieu, said the proposed increase is intended to improve workers’ living standards while supporting production growth and helping the country achieve its target of double-digit economic growth.
