NSA pushes to raise National Service Allowance to GH¢1,200

The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced that it is pursuing an increase in the monthly allowance for National Service Personnel from GH¢715 to at least GH¢1,200.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, July 22, Deputy Director-General Fuseini Donkor said the Authority has submitted a proposal to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and is optimistic that the adjustment will be included in the 2026 national budget.

According to Mr Donkor, the NSA’s leadership, led by the Director-General and the Board Chairman, is continuing to engage the relevant authorities to secure approval for the proposed increase.

“At the moment, service personnel receive GH¢715 a month, and we are seeking to raise that amount to a minimum of GH¢1,200,” he said.

He explained that although the proposal had been presented to the Fair Wages Committee, it was not approved for inclusion in the 2025 budget.

“Unfortunately, it was not captured in the 2025 budget. However, my Director-General and Board Chairman are still pursuing the matter, and we are hopeful it will receive favourable consideration in the 2026 budget,” he added.

Mr Donkor said the proposed increment is intended to improve the welfare of National Service Personnel, who continue to play vital roles in supporting different sectors of the economy.
