Armed man arrested near Trump golf course before fundraiser
A security operation involving local and federal law enforcement has resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old man near a golf course owned by US President Donald Trump days before a scheduled fundraising event at the property.
Investigators say the suspect, identified as Jeanine John Taele, was detained after attracting the attention of security personnel monitoring preparations for the president’s visit to Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
Authorities allege the man was moving around the property taking photographs and recording videos in areas where security arrangements were underway. Federal agents alerted local law enforcement, who later stopped and questioned him.
During the encounter, officers reportedly discovered that the suspect was wanted in connection with a separate robbery investigation being handled by another police department. A subsequent search led to the recovery of a concealed firearm and ammunition that investigators say violated California law.
The incident triggered a broader investigation involving the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the US Secret Service. A search of the suspect’s residence in Downey uncovered additional weapons, ammunition, body armour and notebooks containing writings that authorities considered concerning.
Despite the discoveries, officials said they have not established any credible threat against the public or the president. They also stressed that the suspect has not been charged with plotting to harm Donald Trump.
Law enforcement agencies say the case highlights the heightened security measures that accompany presidential movements and major political events. Authorities credited cooperation between local and federal agencies for identifying and investigating the suspect before the president’s arrival.
Trump is in California for a Republican fundraising event at the golf course before continuing to Nevada for another political engagement. The visit comes as political campaigning intensifies ahead of the upcoming US midterm elections.
Investigations remain ongoing, and officials say additional charges could be filed as detectives continue reviewing evidence collected during the operation.
