Fire breaks out at late Mohammed Murtala’s family house
Reports indicate that a fire has broken out at the family residence of the late Mohammed Murtala, with residents and emergency responders working urgently to bring the blaze under control.
A video circulating on social media shows firefighters at the scene attempting to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the outbreak remains unknown, with investigations expected to determine what triggered the incident.
Mohammed Murtala, a former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, was among eight people who died in a military helicopter crash in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.
The other victims were Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed; NDC National Vice Chairman Dr Samuel Sarpong; former NDC parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The latest fire has caused concern among residents, particularly as it occurred almost a year after the helicopter crash that claimed Murtala’s life and those of the other officials.
An eyewitness described the incident as another painful ordeal for the family following last year’s tragedy.
Emergency personnel remain at the scene as efforts continue to contain the fire and prevent further damage.
