The Ghana Police Service has taken disciplinary action against a senior officer following a controversial demolition exercise at the Accra Race Course in Borteyman, with authorities opening parallel investigations into the incident.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alhassan Malaika Jibril has been interdicted pending the outcome of inquiries into his alleged role in the demolition, which took place on August 22.
The Police Administration announced the decision in a statement, saying the interdiction was necessary to ensure a transparent investigation and prevent any possible interference with the process.
Two units of the Service, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB), have been assigned to examine the circumstances surrounding the demolition and determine whether any laws, regulations or professional standards were breached.
While details of the officer’s alleged involvement have not been disclosed, the move signals the seriousness with which the Police Administration is treating the matter.
The demolition has drawn attention in recent days, prompting questions about how the operation was carried out and the roles played by individuals involved.
Police officials say the investigations will establish the facts of the case before any further action is taken.
The Service stressed that the process would be guided by due process and that any person found to have acted unlawfully would be held accountable under the law.
The outcome of the investigations is expected to determine whether disciplinary, administrative or legal measures will follow.
