Ayariga vows to push completion of Kejetia Market Phase II after site inspection
The government has renewed its commitment to completing the long-delayed Kejetia Market Phase II project following a visit by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, to the site in Kumasi.
The inspection formed part of Mr Ayariga’s first official working tour of the Ashanti Regional capital since assuming office, with attention focused on one of the region’s most significant infrastructure projects.
During the visit, the minister met project stakeholders and reviewed progress on the development, while also assessing obstacles that have slowed work on the market expansion.
According to Mr Ayariga, discussions centred on identifying practical measures needed to overcome the challenges affecting the project and put it back on track.
He described the Kejetia Market Phase II development as critical to the growth of the Kumasi Metropolis, noting that its completion would have significant economic and commercial benefits for traders and residents.
Mr Ayariga pledged to work with relevant institutions and stakeholders to address outstanding issues and accelerate efforts towards completing the project.
The Kejetia Market redevelopment project is regarded as one of the largest market infrastructure investments in the country and is expected to expand trading space, improve facilities and strengthen commercial activity in Kumasi when fully completed.
