115 days without answers: Has Ghana forgotten its MP detained abroad?

It has been 115 days since Asante Akim North MP Ohene Kwame Frimpong, popularly known as OK Frimpong, was detained at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport following a reported U.S. warrant. Parliament initially moved quickly, engaging Ghana’s mission in The Hague and securing legal representation, but the public has heard remarkably little since.

That silence is now becoming the bigger story. The allegations remain allegations, and the MP is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence. But his constituents are also entitled to representation and information. What is his current legal status? What has Ghana’s diplomatic intervention achieved? And how long must Asante Akim North wait for answers?

When a sitting Ghanaian MP is detained abroad, the government cannot allow the story to disappear simply because the headlines have moved on. If there is progress, tell Ghanaians. If there is a legal obstacle, explain it. If nothing can be done, say so. Silence only creates room for speculation and Parliament owes the people more than that.
