“Internal contests will come and go, but the party remains forever” — Slyvester Tetteh
With the New Patriotic Party set to elect new national officers next month, General Secretary aspirant Sylvester Tetteh is urging party members to look beyond divisions from previous internal contests as delegates prepare to choose the party’s next leadership.
The former lawmaker believes support for different candidates during the presidential primary should not become a factor in the upcoming race, arguing that commitment to the party should carry greater weight than past political alignments.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Tetteh said the NPP’s chances of regaining power depend on its ability to unite after internal elections and rally behind a common objective.
“Judge me on my commitment to the party, not on whom I supported during the presidential election. We need everybody in the party to win power,” he said.
According to him, disagreements during party contests are inevitable but should not define long-term relationships within the NPP. He maintained that he has remained consistent in his political convictions and would not alter his views simply to gain support.
“I’m not a person who fakes things. Internal contests will come and go, but the party will remain forever,” he said.
Delegates of the party are expected to head to Kumasi on October 3 to elect national executives, with Tetteh among those seeking the influential General Secretary position.
