Police arrest two, seize 192 parcels of suspected cocaine in Wa
The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested two people and seized 192 compressed parcels of a substance suspected to be cocaine in connection with an alleged drug trafficking network.
The suspects have been identified as 26-year-old Abdulai Isaac, a driver’s mate, and Iddrisu Kamaldeen. Their arrests followed intelligence indicating that suspected cocaine was being transported from Kumasi to Wa through the Bole enclave.
Police said they mounted surveillance along the suspected route, leading to the arrest of Abdulai Isaac at the ESP Bus Station in Wa on September 6, 2026.
A search of his backpack allegedly uncovered 192 compressed parcels containing a substance suspected to be cocaine.
Further investigations subsequently led to the arrest of Iddrisu Kamaldeen, whom the Police described as one of the suspected customers. He allegedly admitted to being a customer of Isaac.
On September 14, officers from the Upper West Regional Police Command, together with personnel from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Wa, conducted a field test on the seized substance.
According to the Police, the test returned positive for cocaine. The exercise was conducted in the presence of the two suspects, their family members and Police officers.
The two suspects have since been remanded in custody and are expected to reappear before the court on October 9, 2026.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals believed to be connected to the alleged narcotics trafficking network.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks and curbing the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs in the region.
