The Upper West Regional Police Command has confirmed that the substance seized from two suspects arrested in Wa has tested positive for cocaine.
Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, told journalists in Wa that all 192 wraps recovered from the suspects were confirmed to be cocaine following forensic analysis conducted in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission.
The two suspects are currently on remand and are expected to appear before the court again on October 9, 2025.
One of the suspects, identified only as SK, was arrested on September 6, 2026, at the ESP Bus Terminal with the suspected narcotic substance.

DCOP Yiribaare described the seizure as the first major cocaine bust of its kind in the Upper West Region. However, he said the police are investigating whether the incident points to an emerging trend in drug trafficking in the area.
He added that the police are intensifying their “foot intelligence” operations to identify and arrest other individuals linked to the suspected drug trade.
The Regional Police Commander also warned owners of commercial vehicles against allowing their vehicles to be used to transport illicit drugs.
“If your vehicle is likely to be connected, we can apply for forfeiture of such vehicles used as carriers,” he cautioned, urging vehicle owners to exercise greater vigilance because they could face legal consequences.
He reiterated that drug trafficking is a serious criminal offence and warned that anyone found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
