Asante Akyem North MP’s extradition hearing set for November 18
Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has revealed that two separate bail applications filed for the embattled Asante Akyem North MP, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, have been rejected by Dutch authorities.
Mr Dafeamekpor said Mr Frimpong remains in custody in the Netherlands, with his extradition hearing scheduled for November 18, 2026.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 23, Mr Dafeamekpor said Parliament was preparing for the substantive hearing.
“The extradition hearing will take place on the 18th of November 2026,” he said.
“He’s still in custody. He’s still in the hands of the Dutch government in Amsterdam. We have done two applications, one substantive, one appeal for his bail, but they all got refused.”
Mr Frimpong was arrested at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam in May 2026 after travelling from Ghana.
Parliament later confirmed his detention and said it was engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to obtain further details about the case.
The Asante Akyem North MP was arrested over allegations relating to romance scams and money laundering.
Mr Dafeamekpor said Parliament was now focused on preparations for the substantive extradition proceedings and was also working on a statement concerning the MP’s current status.
He had previously appealed to the media to refrain from publishing unverified information about the case, explaining that Mr Frimpong’s legal team was still gathering official documents concerning his arrest and detention.
