Police arrest two suspects over kidnap, murder of Senegalese goalkeeper in Kumasi
The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects over the alleged kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Toure in Kumasi in October 2025.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation aimed at identifying and apprehending individuals suspected of involvement in the goalkeeper’s death.
According to the Police, on October 16, 2025, some individuals claiming to be the deceased’s brothers took him to the Manhyia Hospital in Kumasi with multiple abdominal injuries, alleging that he had been involved in an accident.
However, Toure was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The individuals later deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo, Kumasi, before fleeing the facility.
Police investigations subsequently led to the arrest of two suspects, identified as 32-year-old Nigerien national Salifu Walid and 24-year-old Burkinabe national Aziz Wadrago Mane.
The two were apprehended on September 20, 2026, at a hideout in Banpanase, near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects belong to a four-member group believed to have orchestrated the kidnapping and murder of the Senegalese goalkeeper.
The group allegedly posed as football scouts and used online platforms to lure unsuspecting individuals to Ghana.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted their involvement and provided details about their respective roles in bringing Toure to Ghana as part of an alleged fraud scheme.
The Police are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the two remaining suspects, identified as Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry.
The two are currently on the run and are believed to have played key roles in the group’s activities.
Salifu Walid and Aziz Wadrago Mane remain in Police custody and are expected to be processed for court.
The Ghana Police Service says investigations are ongoing as efforts intensify to apprehend the remaining suspects.
