Kpandai man jailed 10 years for defiling 11-year-old girl

A 37-year-old man, Tibini Atta, has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for defiling an 11-year-old girl at Digangan, a farming community in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region.

The Northern Regional Police Command said the incident occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2026, after the victim reportedly accompanied the suspect to a farm.

Police said Atta allegedly had sexual intercourse with the girl, leaving her with injuries that required medical attention.

The case was reported to the Kpandai Police by the victim’s uncle, 25-year-old farmer Desmond Mulache, at about 2:55 p.m.

The victim was subsequently taken to the Kpandai District Hospital, where she was admitted and treated. However, medical personnel later informed investigators that, due to the extent of her injuries, she needed to be referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Atta appeared before the Gender Circuit Court in Tamale on Friday, September 25, 2026. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Meanwhile, investigators from the Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tamale have visited the victim at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where she is receiving further treatment.

According to the police, the girl is responding to treatment and remains under close medical observation.

The Police Command said it will continue working with the hospital and other relevant stakeholders to monitor her recovery and ensure she receives the necessary support.
