Ghana, Saint Kitts and Nevis sign deal to offer better pay and benefits for Ghanaian nurses
Ghanaian nurses recruited to work in Saint Kitts and Nevis will receive improved and legally protected employment benefits under a new bilateral labour agreement signed between the two countries.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced that the agreement guarantees enhanced salaries, health insurance, rent allowances, end-of-service benefits and other labour protections for Ghanaian healthcare professionals deployed to the Caribbean nation.
The agreement was signed in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly by Mr Ablakwa and the Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dr Geoffrey Hanley.
According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, the arrangement reflects Ghana’s commitment to using diplomacy to create opportunities and improve the welfare of its citizens abroad.
He also praised Ghanaian professionals for their growing international reputation, noting that many countries continue to seek their expertise and services.
“Ghana will continue to pursue impactful diplomacy which benefits the people we serve,” Mr Ablakwa said.
The agreement further strengthens relations between Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis while creating new opportunities for Ghanaian nurses seeking employment overseas under protected and structured conditions.
