The Controlled Food Suppliers Association (CFSA) has issued the government a two-week deadline to begin discussions on a clear payment schedule for outstanding debts owed to its members.
The association says suppliers are yet to receive payment for food items delivered to Senior High Schools nationwide under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme during the 2024/2025 academic year.
The supplies were made through the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) and the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX), with the outstanding debt estimated at approximately GH¢250 million.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, October 10, President of the Controlled Food Suppliers Association, Danso Twumasi, said the prolonged delay in payment has placed significant financial and personal strain on affected suppliers.
He warned that the association would decide on its next course of action after the two-week ultimatum if the government fails to respond to their concerns.
The association is urging the Presidency, the Ministries of Education and Finance, NAFCO, GCX and other relevant institutions to urgently engage with its representatives and provide clarity on the settlement of the outstanding debts.
According to the CFSA, the amounts owed have already been reconciled and are not subject to dispute.
The suppliers are therefore demanding an immediate and transparent engagement, as well as a realistic and time-bound payment plan outlining when the outstanding amounts will be settled and which institutions will be responsible for implementing the arrangement.
