The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has launched a Yellow Fever Reactive Vaccination Campaign in the Wa West, Sissala East and Sissala West districts of the Upper West Region.
The five-day exercise began on Wednesday, October 14, and is expected to end on Sunday, October 18, 2026. It aims to vaccinate approximately 244,869 people aged between nine months and 60 years across the three districts.
The campaign is intended to contain the yellow fever outbreak and protect residents against the disease.
To ensure broad coverage and convenient access to vaccination services, trained health workers have been deployed to health facilities, while temporary vaccination centres have been established at strategic public locations, including markets, bus stations, churches, mosques, schools and other public spaces.
Mobile vaccination teams are also moving through settlements, towns and villages to reach all eligible residents within the affected districts.
Everyone vaccinated during the exercise is being issued a yellow vaccination card as official proof of immunisation. The public has been advised to keep the cards safely, as they may be required when accessing healthcare, enrolling in schools or travelling.
The Ghana Health Service has emphasised that vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent yellow fever and control outbreaks. A single dose of the vaccine provides lifelong protection, making immunisation essential to safeguarding individuals and communities against the disease.
The Service has therefore urged all eligible persons aged nine months to 60 years in the three districts to participate in the campaign and get vaccinated.
It stressed that public participation is crucial to achieving high vaccination coverage, containing the outbreak and protecting the health and well-being of residents.
