Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced plans to introduce a water rationing programme within the next two weeks to address persistent supply challenges in parts of the eastern corridor of the Greater Accra Region.
The affected areas include sections of Kpone-Katamanso, Tema East, Tema West and Ashaiman, among other communities.
Speaking during a visit to some of the affected communities, GWL’s Public Relations Officer, Stanley Martey, said the areas would be divided into three zones to ensure a more organised distribution of water.
He explained that the proposed water demand management programme would allow residents to plan ahead and store water in preparation for their scheduled supply periods.
Mr Martey said the company was working to improve supply and expected to finalise the rationing schedule within one to two weeks before communicating it to the affected communities.
He added that GWL engineers had also carried out re-engineering works in some areas to improve water flow and address the ongoing supply difficulties.
The programme is expected to establish a more structured water distribution system for the affected communities while the company continues efforts to improve supply.
