A 15-year-old Ghanaian immigrant has been shot dead in the Bronx, New York City, in the United States, on Thursday, October 29, police have confirmed.
The teenager, identified as Javits Frimpong, died at a hospital after being shot near the junction of Crotona Place and East 171st Street shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to authorities.
Sources told PIX11 that Frimpong sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was found drifting in and out of consciousness.
Police are currently searching for three men suspected of involvement in the shooting. The suspects, who were last seen dressed in black, reportedly fled along Fulton Avenue, with two of them wearing surgical masks.
Surveillance footage captured an individual fleeing the scene who matched the description provided by police: a person wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants and a face mask.
Authorities said the victim managed to run about a block after being shot before collapsing. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where he died.
Speaking to journalists, the victim’s father, Thomas Frimpong, said his son had relocated from Ghana to the United States about a year ago and had previously complained about being bullied by some students at school.
He further revealed that two students had been suspended after repeatedly bullying his son.
