Deputy Chairperson of the EC, Dr. Bossman Asare has condemned attempts to influence voters during Monday’s special voting, including the distribution of food and other incentives. He confirmed that the EC was investigating the matter and would take appropriate action once all evidence had been gathered.
“Offering food or other inducements to influence voters is illegal, and we take such incidents seriously. We will issue a statement once the investigation is complete,” he said.In an interview with Joy FM’s Midday News on Wednesday, December 4.
Dr Bossman further emphasized Electoral Commission’s readiness for the rescheduled special voting exercise in the Western and Eastern Regions, which will take place tomorrow. He reassured the public that all preparations had been made to ensure a smooth voting process. He revealed that all necessary election materials had already been sent to the two regions.
The special voting was initially delayed after a printing error was discovered in the first batch of ballot papers. As a result, the EC ordered the reprinting of the ballots for these regions, causing the postponement of the exercise to this week.
“The Electoral Commission is fully prepared for tomorrow’s special voting. All required materials have been delivered to the Western and Eastern Regions, and we expect that all registered special voters, regardless of their location, will be able to vote at their designated centres,” Dr. Asare said.
Dr. Asare also reassured the public that measures were in place to ensure the election would be free, fair, and transparent. The EC recently held a meeting with political parties to discuss the election’s integrity, which led to the decision to reprint the ballots.
“We are committed to a fair and transparent process. The decision to reprint the ballots for the Western and Eastern Regions reflects our commitment to ensuring that the elections are free and fair,” he stated.
