Entertainer and independent parliamentary candidate Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A Plus in show business, has emerged victorious in the Gomoa Central Parliamentary elections.
The political activist and social commentator who had his fair share of criticisms after announcing months ago, his intentions to contest the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat as an independent, came out on top after securing 13,491 of the total valid ballots, defeating the incumbent Member of Parliament, Naana Eyiah Quansah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who received 10,541 votes.
Kwame A plus who expressed confidence in his ability to represent his constituency in Parliament highlighted the works he had done for the people of Gomoa Central and hoped for a smooth sail to victory, urging his potential rivals to allow him go unopposed.
Despite facing numerous criticisms for his decision, Mr. A Plus went up against candidates from the two major political parties and emerged as the winner of the Gomoa Central Parliamentary seat with 13,491, about 2,950 more votes than the incumbent MP Naana Eyiah Quansah (10,541 votes) who contested on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and over 4,000 votes more than the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwame Deen Yawson (9,116 votes).
In reaction to his victory, Kwame A Plus took to his Facebook to celebrate the result, thanking his supporters and reaffirming his pledge to serving the Gomoa Central Constituency in Parliament.
