The Supreme Court has overturned the High Court’s order for a recollation and redeclaration of parliamentary election results for four disputed constituencies on Friday December 27,2024
This decision follows an application filed by the NDC challenging the declaration and redeclaration of results in disputed constituencies.
The NDC sought to overturn the High Court’s ruling mandating the EC to recollate and redeclare election results for five constituencies-Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, Techiman South and Obuasi East
The party also sought to nullify the continued collation of results in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri
Ahafo Ano North constituencies
The NDC argued that the High Court judge had violated the fundamental rule of law by not allowing their parliamentary candidates to defend themselves.
A five-member panel, chaired by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, overturned the High Court’s order and directed that the matter be reheard by a different judge on January 31, 2024.
However, the Supreme court maintained the High Court’s order to continue collating results for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Ahafo Ano North.
Baba Sadiq, Ebi Bright, Samuel Aboagye and Christopher Beeyere Baasongi lost their seats following the EC’s recollation of results from their respective constituencies.
Ebi Bright who narowly won Tema Central lost her seat to Charles Forson according to the recollated results
NDCs Samuel Aboagye who innitially won in the Obuasi East constituency , lost his seat after redeclared to Npp’s Patrick- Boakye Yiadom.
Baba Sadiq who was initially declared the winner of Okaikwei Central also lost to incumbent MP Patrick Yaw Boamah after the recollation and redeclaration.
Moreover the Techiman South seat which was initially won by Christopher Beyere was redecalered for Npp’s Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah
The EC began the recollation process in nine disputed constituencies on Friday, December 20, despite opposition from the NDC.
